Don's Hospice emergency/comfort kit arrived by UPS late yesterday, Kit includes Morphine sulphate, Acetaminophen supp, Prochlorperazine supp & pill form, ABHR supp, Haloperidol, Lorazepam, Needles Subcutaneous, Atrophine.
These drugs are a comfort in an emergency and we have a hot line to hospice to use them effectively, the nurses will help and will come to the house, this is a huge comfort to Don and myself.
I am an EX caregiver for my husband who had the "NO CURE" disease ALS aka Lou Gehrig's MND disease. I was not a nurse or medically educated, I was thrown into this role because of ALS & I had to learn fast. I am a writer of nothing's unless you care or want to know or be informed about ALS, HOWEVER I DON'T SUGAR COAT SUBJECT'S as ALS is far from sweet. There are also many informative Blogs and helpful links, self knowledge is power, Thank You for visiting.
I am so glad you have this kit. We are not "hospice" yet, when do you get that? How is it desided?

DeleteMorning Jan :0), you get the kit when you are booked into the hospice system, this decision is was made for Don by the hospice director via the hospice nurse assesment. Usually done when the patient is predicted to live less than 6 months, having said this Don has been re admitted to hospice system a few times now as his ALS is unpredicatable and terminal. After being admitted a hospice care package is delivered to the home with medications for emergencies, this gives the patient a safety net till help can arrive by way of hospice, and it has always been a safety feeling for us both. When a patient is admitted to hospice and becomes very stable they can also go into a pallative care mode (like a graduation)hospice still sees the patient but not as much.
